WEEK IN REVIEW – HAMMOND
Hammond, Indiana- The United States Attorney’s Office
announced the following:
Jimmie Ray, 32, of Hobart, Indiana, was charged in a two
count criminal Complaint unsealed today with influencing, impeding, or
retaliating against a federal official by threat and threatening the President
of the United States. Ray appeared at a
probable cause/detention hearing today before Magistrate Judge Andrew Rodovich, who ordered that Ray be detained at a prison
hospital for a competency evaluation.
The Court will set the next hearing upon receipt of the evaluation
report. These charges were filed as the
result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case has been assigned to and will be
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Collins.
The United States Attorney's
Office emphasized that a Complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons
charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
If convicted in court, any
specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge after a consideration
of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
